Biochemical stars meet Artificial Intelligence: The startup Exazyme uses machine learning to develop blueprints for new enzymes.

Exazyme has attracted two venture capital firms, AIX Ventures and Atlantic Labs, securing €2 million in initial funding. Proteins promote and accelerate numerous chemical reactions, yet optimizing their properties in the lab is time-consuming and costly. Ingmar Schuster devised an alternative: Exazyme calculates the properties of new enzymes through Artificial Intelligence (AI). Since July 2021, the startup has been supported with an EXIST startup grant. Ingmar Schuster, CEO of Exazyme, aims to contribute to sustainability, particularly in food production, by better aligning energy supply with enzyme needs for chemical reactions.
